Film #146: Shampoo
Released in 1975, Hal Ashby’s Shampoo very well may rank as the great director’s most cynical film. Ashby had previously given us The Landlord, Harold and Maude, and The Last Detail, and would go on to deliver Bound for Glory, Coming Home and Being There before beginning a cocaine-fueled downward 1980s slump that would end in his untimely death in 1988 at age 59. It’s been years since I’ve

As always, click on the photo you love to see it full screen:

The scam is on in Grand Slam (Giuliano Montaldo, 67).

Pay The Cost To Be The Boss (Of Your Hair)

I normally wouldn’t advocate spending more than $15-20 on shampoo or conditioner; but when you have hair with behavioral problems like mine, well, sometimes you’ve gotta pay the cost to be the boss.
Philip B White Truffle Shampoo and White Truffle Nourishing Hair Conditioning Creme impart moisture, elasticity, and shine to chemically processed, dry, or damaged hair. The miracle broth of 23.2% pure botanical extracts (white truffle, lavender, comfrey, thyme, hops, and nettle) instantly disciplined my mane. Usually when I use a new hair product, I need to blow it dry and style it before I notice any difference. With this shampoo and conditioner, I felt the difference in the shower! The only thing I can liken it to is Ritalin for your hair.
At $54 and $75 - stay with me here – these products cost 3 and 4 times what I, a beauty junkie, would typically spend on shampoo and conditioner. But considering how much I generally pay for hair serums, lotions, and potions promising to make my hair behave – I will gladly dig deep into my pockets to fund this addiction.
Philip B White Truffle Shampoo and White Truffle Nourishing Hair Conditioning Creme are on my Spoiled Prettiest: Best of Beauty 2007 list. Philip B products are available for purchase online, and at a beauty supply store near you.

Hot Coffee

While perusing the Daily Beauty Flash column at InStyle.com, I was blown away by this photo of Jessica Biel. Granted, her makeup is subtle, yet stunning – but what really caught my eye was the rich espresso hue of her hair color.
"Going with a vibrant dark shade is the perfect way to freshen up your look for fall. And deep colors reflect light better, so your hair will automatically look shiny," says celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham at John Frieda in L.A.
To prevent fading, choose a shampoo formulated for color-treated tresses and use a color-depositing glaze once a week. Try Frederic Fekkai Technician Shampoo For Dry, Damaged, Color-Treated Hair and John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze.

It's All About The Hamiltons, Baby
I never spent more than $10 on shampoo. I never saw much point to spending more than a Hamilton on something I’m going to put in my hair, just to rinse out. To me, shampoo was just the equivalent of liquid soap. That is until I discovered Frederic Fekkai Technician Shampoo For Dry, Damaged, Color-Treated Hair.
This shampoo is formulated to replenish moisture and restore hair to good health by strengthening and protecting it. Natural cleansers gently clean the hair while natural conditioners add moisture. Apricot, avocado, calendula, and peach provide extra moisture and softness to hydrate the hair. After using it, as promised, my abused hair was softer, smoother, and shinier.Note: Your hair needn’t be dry, damaged, and color-treated to enjoy this product. As long as your strands are one of the above, they will reap the rewards of this magic potion.
An 8 ounce bottle of the shampoo will cost you one Jackson and two Washingtons. But take it from me, it's definitely worth every Lincoln.
Available at Sephora.

Leaving On A Jet Plane
Tomorrow, I’m off to visit my in-laws in my husband’s hometown of Spokane, Washington. As I type this, my luggage is bursting at the seams (I am a repeat offender of over-packing). But while I may not always pack light, I always pack smart. In the Summer of 2003, while preparing for a backpacking trip across Europe, I discovered a product that has served me well in my travels ever since.
The Nalgene Travel Bottle Kit is an assortment of 8 bottles that is perfect for packing and organizing shampoo, lotions, vitamins and other travel essentials. With the Nalgene Travel Bottle Kit, you don’t have to waste money on trial sizes of toiletries. And you don’t have to worry about the inevitable leaks and spills that often accompany packing full-sized containers of beauty basics – because Nalgene bottles are guaranteed leakproof and break-resistant.The bottles’ color-coded caps allow for easy identification, and all contents of the kit are dishwasher safe…so you can use them again and again. In 4 years, the Nalgene bottles have never failed me.
So where is my trusty travel bottle kit now? It’s in the bag.
