Five Reasons To Cleanse With T’Fivve

The top five reasons to wash your face with T’Fivve Moisturizing Facial Cleansing Foam:

5) The rich foam gently melts away makeup and pollutants
4) Doesn’t strip the skin's natural hydration
3) Helps maintain normal pH balance
2) After cleansing, your face feels refreshed, not dry or tight
1) Because I said so (and because it’s one of the best cleansers I’ve used in a very long time)

T’Five Moisturizing Facial Cleansing Foam contains Bergamot Fruit Oil, to act as an anti-bacterial; Orange Peel Oil to smoothe skin; Lemon Peel Oil softens; and Ylang Ylang Oil controls sebum production.

If you have very dry and sensitive skin - like mine - you’ll give T’Fivve Moisturizing Facial Cleansing Foam five enthusiastic thumbs up.

Available at skinscientifica.com and skinstore.com.

Bliss Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk: A Retraction

Last month, I said some not-so-nice things about Bliss’ Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk. After my bad experience, I was going to toss out the bottle; but since it cost me $28, I found it another home.

Yesterday, my sister informed me that the cleanser has totally transformed her skin. After only three days of using it (in the AM and PM), she said the solution was aggressively unclogging her pores - without irritation or over-drying; her whiteheads were literally being pushed out of the pores in her t-zone, and she has seen a reduction in the number of breakouts.

So what’s the point of this parable? The moral is that products work differently on different people. So keep an open mind, and ask for samples - whenever possible - before you commit to a full-sized product.

Breakup Makeup

When we get our hearts broken, emotions run the gamut. We heal ourselves through tears, fill our iPods with sad love songs, and use Häagen-Dazs as an analgesic. But when things are going bad, sometimes the best revenge is looking good.

Newly single gals can paint the town (and their nails) red with Orly’s Divorcée 6-Pix. The collection includes 50/50, Pawn the Ring, It's Not Me, It's You, One Night Stand, See Yah, and Take Him To The Cleaners.

Got a friend going through a breakup? Buy her Hard Candy's Mix Tape in Breakup Mix. It takes a lot less effort than making a real one, and she’ll look cute to boot. The palette feature three eye shadows and three lip glosses, so you can create a mix of color to match your mood. All the shades are made to coordinate, so it’s impossible to come up with a bad combination.

Benefit’s dear john lustrous facial cream is like a 'moisture magnet' for your skin. Use day or night to moisturize and put lustre back into your complexion. Voted "best face cream" by Elle magazine in 2006.

MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil from Boscia is a miraculously different and extremely gentle way to deep cleanse, by breaking up all makeup, dissolving impurities and refreshing congested skin without leaving an oily residue.

The Good, The Bad, and The Bubbly

The Good - Bliss Snow Wonder Body Butter

Y’all already know that I have much love for Bliss Body Butter, a hand and body moisturizer that “instantly drenches dry skin to leave even the scaliest sort feeling seriously soft." Just in time for the holidays, Bliss has introduced Snow Wonder Body Butter – a limited edition scent. Infused with the an avalanche of antioxidant arctic berry, vitamins A and E, Snow Wonder’s crisp scent recalls the “fresh fragrance of just-fallen flakes.” This winter, soften and smooth skin with a subtle shimmer…you'll get a flurry of compliments, trust me!

The Bad - Bliss Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk

On their website, Bliss promises that the Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk “does exactly what it promises. So whether your face suffers from the typical t-zone traffic jam or is oily all over, this marvel of a milky wash will keep it 'in the clear'. A must-try.”

Don’t ya just hate empty promises? The gentle, low foaming texture of the cleanser was nice…and the citrusy scent was pleasant. But when it came to the clog-dissolving part, I saw nothing of the sort…the condition of my complexion is no better and no worse than before I began using this product. It does cleanse nicely, but for $28, I expect it to do more than merely remove my makeup.

The Bubbly – Bliss Snow Suit Gift Set

For less than $30, you can purchase the Snow Suit Gift Set – which includes travel sizes of the Bliss Snow Wonder Body Butter and the Snow Wonder Bath+Shower Gel (this foamy body wash evokes a clean, crisp, winter day - without the ‘brrrrr’ factor!). Makes the perfect gift for a friend, loved one, or yourself!

First Class

Fern Mallis is the SVP of IMG Fashion and the brains behind New York fashion week. She launched Mercedes-Benz fashion weeks in Los Angeles and Miami, and oversees runway shows from Milan to Mumbai. I still hold a bit of a grudge against Ms. Mallis for her part in voting Jeffrey Sebelia the winner of Project Runway’s third season, but have to admit…the woman does have impeccable taste.

The November issue of Marie Claire gives us a glimpse into this world-traveler’s carry-on bag.

Lash Lust: Kevyn Aucoin The Mascara in Black
“The Japanese volumizing technology in the formula is genius.”

Unzipped: Sephora Makeup Bag
“I love all of the zippered compartments that fit my hundreds of beauty samples.”

Skin So Soft: Wexler MMPI Skin Regenerating Serum
“I use it before takeoff, and my skin feels smooth and dewy.”

Air Kiss: Flirt! Squeeze Me Super Shiny Lipgloss
“It’s moisturizing without being sticky, and its natural color doesn’t scream.”

Winter Glow: Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder
“Bobbi knows a good natural tan.”

Lip Locked: MAC Frost Lipstick in Gilty Kiss
“This light-catching lipstick is my staple for photo shoots.”

Golden Eye: Smashbox Eye Shadow Quad in Ambient
“These metallic shades best compliment my coloring.”

Fresh Faced: Dr. Jessica Wu Gentle Foaming Cleanser
“This cleans my face after all that stale plane air but doesn’t strip natural oils.”

Made For A Man, But Strong Enough For A Woman

Never one to pass up a sample, I said “Why not?” when a generous C.O. Bigelow salesman recently offered me Glycolic Facial Cleanser from Anthony Logistics For Men. I figured I would just give it to my husband to try. But after reading that it makes your face “squeak with cleanliness”, I decided that his Nivea Energizing Face Scrub works just fine, and that I should use the sample myself. This might sound selfish (don’t judge me), but you don’t know my husband. He balks at anything he can’t get at the drugstore – plus, he would never pay $18 for face wash.

After using the cleanser, my face was not just squeaky clean - it was also smooth and soft. And it left me wondering, “Why don’t they market this stuff to women?” So I’m doing Anthony a favor and letting you all in on the secret.

The Glycolic Facial Cleanser has aloe vera to soothe skin, glycolic acid to ease away fine lines, and Vitamins A, C, and E to nourish. But, unlike many products made specifically for men, this cleanser has a citrusy, unisex fragrance. Anthony Logistics is available at Bath & Body Works, Blue Mercury, C.O. Bigelow, Douglas Cosmetics, Nordstrom, and Sephora stores.

It's So Easy Being Green

Just because I love makeup doesn't mean that I can't love the environment too, right? It used to be that eco-friendly cosmetics were few and far between, had an extremely short shelf-life, and were as couture as a hemp bracelet. But recently, a number of companies have jumped on the natural beauty bandwagon - giving us good reason to go green.

Makeup

Cargo's PlantLove Botanical Lipstick contains no mineral oils or petroleums. In their place, the formula contains meadowfoam seed oil, jojoba and shea butter as well as their trademarked Orchid Complex. The packaging is what makes this lipstick truly special. It’s made entirely out of corn (which by it’s nature, is completely bio-degradable). In addition, the outer carton is made of flower paper, embedded with real flower seeds. So plant the packaging and see how your garden grows. In addition, Cargo is donating two dollars from the sale of every shade of lipstick to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Natural rose and jojoba waxes in Dr. Hauschka Mascara Intermezzo help strengthen lashes. It also has a silky, plant extract-rich formula that's great for contact-lens wearers and those with sensitive eyes. Jennifer Aniston is a fan.

Smashbox Palettes for PETA are limited-edition, 100% vegan eye shadows formulated for superb blendability that have never been tested on animals. Pick up a palette and help smashbox support cruelty-free, kind living. IPalette includes a double-ended brush for blending, lining and smudging.

Face

Epicuren Citrus Herbal Cleanser is an all natural liquid cleanser for normal, combination or sensitive skin. Infused with apricot, walnut, and cucumber extracts, it is a superior aromatherapy cleanser.

Angelina Jolie loves Shea Terra Organics Lip Butter, made from shea butter, beeswax, and virgin coconut crème oil. And unlike most balms, their ultra moisturizing lip butters are petroleum-free and naturally sweetened, so chances are you will be licking your lips!

Stella McCartney Care 5 Benefits Moisturizing Cream improves skin's moisture, nourishes, helps to protect the skin from exposure to the environment, and leaves skin firm, fresh, and radiant.

Hair

John Masters Organics Bouron Vanilla & Tangerine Hair Texturizer is an extra-strength texturizer that's perfect for shaping hair into any style, from spiky to smooth. It adds amazing texture and creates a soft, shiny, non-greasy finish.

Lauren Conrad uses It’s All Good Rosemary Mint Shampoo, which cools and revitalizes your scalp leaving hair feeling soft, silky, and smooth.

Skin

What's so special about Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Creme? Honey, where do I begin? It offers intense moisturization to even the roughest of feet and callused skin. With coconut oil, olive oil and vitamin E it will pamper and nourish your feet leaving them soft and beautiful. Peppermint oil provides a cooling and refreshing feeling. For $4 more, purchase the creme as part of the Foot Care Kit, which includes a pumice stone, sleep socks, and tips for touchable tootsies.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Matcha Tea Body Scrub exfoliates skin with antioxidant-rich green tea and sea salt. It whisks away roughness, dullness and skin stressors, purifies the body and reinvigorates the flow of healthy energy to restore the four perfect principles of the Tea Ceremony - “Wa (harmony), kei (respect), sei (purity), jaku (tranquility)”.
