This Holiday Season, Tarte Wishes You Health

Accidentally leave some friend/cousin/co-worker off of your list, and now you’ve got to promptly stuff some stockings? Tarte’s We Wish You Health Skinvigorating Gift Set is a sure bet. The kit contains:

Mini Clean Slate Face Primer: the silicone-based formula is packed with avocado oil to moisturize and echinacea, rosemary & hibiscus oils to soothe. Just a pea-sized amount of our new clean slate foundation primer smoothed onto clean skin is enough to provide the fresh start you deserve. Note: because of the silicone, I wouldn’t recommend those with oily skin.

Mini Lock & Roll Creaseless Eyeshadow Duo (shade - slate): this double-ended wand has a Vitamin E enriched cream on one end, and a finely milled crushed mica powder shadow on the other end. Apply in to simple steps: brush a sheer wash of the cream shadow on lids and wait about 10 seconds for it to dry. Then roll the matching loose shadow directly on top; the binding agents in the cream shadow will lock with the powder, creating a crease-free, budge-proof finish.
Mini Inside Out Vitamin-Infused Lipgloss powered by BORBA (new shade - serenity): the ultimate in double-duty beauty, this pomegranate-scented, moisturizing lip gloss works to soothe and hydrate lips, while Borba’s nutraceutical blend delivers powerful ingredients.

Mini Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara: whatever your lashes lack, this feather-light, 4-in-1 mascara finds a way to compensate. Rice bran and candelilla wax extend the length of lashes; synthetic film formers lock in curl; proVitamin B5 thickens lashes; and organic compounds coat and treat lashes to protect against breakage. This product, by itself, is reason enough to purchase the gift set – it gives you the look of perfect lashes, but without screaming “I‘m wearing mascara.”

The We Wish You Health Skinvigorating Gift Set is only $30 (a $50 value) and available at tartecosmetics.com and Sephora.

Go Ask Alice

For Holiday 2007, Walt Disney has partnered with Gianna Rose Atelier to produce triple-milled soap sets inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

"We went into Disney's vaults and drew upon the inspiration of Walt Disney's iconography to transform the characters, images and themes into couture soaps," said Blair Buckley, Vice President of Product development at Gianna Rose Atelier.

Alice’s Treasures includes three soaps in the shape of a heart, a key, and a pocket watch – all packaged in a baroque style collector's box, embellished with a key charm and story hand tag.

Alice’s English Garden is comprised of hand soap petals, “plucked” from the garden - infused with a blend of Gardenia and White Rose - and placed in an antique-style apothecary jar.

The Red Queen’s Court features four playing card-shaped soaps, embossed with silhouettes of Alice, the White Rabbit, the royal crest of the Queen and the key to Wonderland. All rest on a beautiful porcelain dish, and are boxed in Disney-inspired collectible style.

Spoiled Pretty's Holiday Gift Guide

I know that many of you have started (and finished) your holiday shopping by now. So I apologize for the delay of this post. However, if you’re a procrastinator like me – you figure that there’s thirteen perfectly good days left to pick up what hasn’t already been snatched off the shelves. So, to the slackers of the world (you know who you are)…this one’s for you.

This is Spoiled Pretty’s Holiday Gift Guide, ’07 edition.

Fragrance is a very personal thing. Unless you know the recipient’s favorite scent (or he/she has requested something specific), fragrance can be a tricky gift. Even if you know the “notes” that the person likes, perfumes and colognes react to differently on everyone…so it could be a real hit, or a big miss. Instead, try The Sephora Scent Sampler; it includes samples of popular fragrances, plus a gift voucher of equal value that can be redeemed at any Sephora store for a full size bottle of any one of the samples included. Available for her (includes 10 samples) and for him (includes 8 samples).

Makeup, again, is a very personal thing. I typically don’t recommend buying cosmetics unless you really know the recipient. But even then…I mean, would you want someone just buying you some random makeup? I didn’t think so. Me neither. But if you insist on doing so, opt for a palette. Around the holidays, makeup companies flood the market with kits and gift sets in a plethora of price ranges. So it shouldn’t be hard finding one. The key, though, is to find one that includes products and colors that are universally flattering. You really can’t go wrong with Sephora's Supermodel Kit, a glamourous gift set filled with products worn by top models at Fashion Week Live. The set includes Stila Lip Glaze, Make Up For Ever Diamond Shadow, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, Smashbox O-GLOW, Dior Diorshow Mascara, and Sephora Blush Me! - all in a chic black sequined Sephora clutch. Or you could buy a lip gloss set. I love Stila’s Gift of Glaze set because it includes two limited-edition shades (nutmeg spice, candy cane) and favorites grapefruit, apricot, vanilla, and brown sugar. What woman would balk at that? You’d be hard pressed to find one.

Now onto bath & body products…there are so many pre-assembled gift sets out there right now – and while it’s a very sensible gift, some are just so generic and cheesy (especially those that come in a ceramic sleigh or awful wicker concoction). So look for sets with unique, pretty packaging. I absolutely adore the Sugar Tart Gift Set from Fresh; this festive set includes Sugar Lemon Eau de Parfum, Sugar Lemon Bath and Shower Gel, and Sugar Lemon Body Lotion in an elegant red, gold, and silver box. It’s a Sephora exclusive and it’s already sold out online – so visit your local store and hope you get lucky.

Finally, there’s gift cards. They’re practical and all, but c’mon…nothing says “I don’t really know you” or “I didn’t give this munch thought” quite like a gift card. All it takes is an extra step or two to show the recipient you truly care. Try a gift card to a nail salon, along with L’Occitane’s Lavender Hand Cream and a bottle of Pink Quartz Nail Shimmer from Bobbi Brown. Or slip a gift card into a chic cosmetic clutch, like this festive one from Stephanie Johnson.

These simple suggestions should help you find the gift guaranteed to spoil someone (or yourself) pretty. Happy shopping!

Bling Blang

Got some extra room in your $18,000 Goyard/Lancome train case? Good news – La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Cream now comes in a refillable jar, be-dazzled with 2,400 handset Swarovski crystals. This dramatic firming treatment provides skin with vital nutrients, including a Caviar Firming Complex to hydrate, nourish and pamper skin. Only 610 pieces were produced worldwide – and one of those babies can be yours for the low, low price of $2,000.

Got some more disposable income – like $62,000 worth? Earlier this month, Guerlain introduced KissKiss Gold and Diamonds, a lipstick custom-designed in France, adorned with 18-carat yellow gold and paved with 199 diamonds, weighing in at 2.2 carats. Housed in a black lacquered wooden case, KissKiss Gold and Diamonds is refillable and accompanied by its own lip brush and protective black suede pouch. The gold encasing can be customized with a name or message engraving and the lipstick is available in 15 customizable shades hand selected by Guerlain’s Artistic Director, Olivier Echaudemaison.

If you're thinking that $62,000 is a bit steep, but $56,808 is more up your alley, The New York Post has a great idea for pinching some pennies - have the store ship it to you for a $12.75 fee, and save $5,192.50 in sales tax. What a steal!

The KissKiss Gold and Diamonds lipstick is available at Guerlain Boutiques at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus San Francisco, The Breakers West Palm Beach and Epcot through private appointment only.

Feel Nice, Give Twice

This holiday season, Cake Beauty wants to stir things up and make gift giving something to truly feel good about. Give Twice, their limited edition holiday collection, will warm your heart and keep our earth cool. They teamed with the nonprofit organization, Zerofootprint, to calculate and offset all carbon dioxide emissions generated during the manufacturing and shipping of the Give Twice collection. Donations will be given to a certified reforestation project.

Feel good about giving…give once to a friend, or to yourself and a second time to our world with Cake Beauty’s limited edition Mint Cashmere Cream Collection. The Mint Cashmere Cream Glistening Bath & Shower Froth envelops your skin in hydrating suds that leave behind a delectable, Peppermint Pattie-esque fragrance. The Mint Cashmere Cream Glistening Supreme Body Mousse nourishes with coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, and mango butter. Both are kissed with a shimmer of light-reflecting mica that make skin appear smooth and even…perfect for those festive holiday get-togethers!

After using it, I felt minty fresh – and my husband said I smelled “yummy.” Does it get any better than that?

The Good, The Bad, and The Bubbly

The Good - Bliss Snow Wonder Body Butter

Y’all already know that I have much love for Bliss Body Butter, a hand and body moisturizer that “instantly drenches dry skin to leave even the scaliest sort feeling seriously soft." Just in time for the holidays, Bliss has introduced Snow Wonder Body Butter – a limited edition scent. Infused with the an avalanche of antioxidant arctic berry, vitamins A and E, Snow Wonder’s crisp scent recalls the “fresh fragrance of just-fallen flakes.” This winter, soften and smooth skin with a subtle shimmer…you'll get a flurry of compliments, trust me!

The Bad - Bliss Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk

On their website, Bliss promises that the Clog-Dissolving Cleansing Milk “does exactly what it promises. So whether your face suffers from the typical t-zone traffic jam or is oily all over, this marvel of a milky wash will keep it 'in the clear'. A must-try.”

Don’t ya just hate empty promises? The gentle, low foaming texture of the cleanser was nice…and the citrusy scent was pleasant. But when it came to the clog-dissolving part, I saw nothing of the sort…the condition of my complexion is no better and no worse than before I began using this product. It does cleanse nicely, but for $28, I expect it to do more than merely remove my makeup.

The Bubbly – Bliss Snow Suit Gift Set

For less than $30, you can purchase the Snow Suit Gift Set – which includes travel sizes of the Bliss Snow Wonder Body Butter and the Snow Wonder Bath+Shower Gel (this foamy body wash evokes a clean, crisp, winter day - without the ‘brrrrr’ factor!). Makes the perfect gift for a friend, loved one, or yourself!
